Bee Control Services in Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania

Bees showing up around your eaves, deck, or siding can be more than a nuisance. Some species sting in defense of a nest, some chew tunnels straight through structural wood, and figuring out which one you are dealing with is not always obvious from a distance. Diamond Pest Control has handled bee, wasp, and carpenter bee problems throughout Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania for more than 50 years, and we know how to remove a colony safely without putting your family, pets, or the local bee population at unnecessary risk.

If you have spotted a nest or noticed bees gathering in one spot around your property, contact us for a free inspection. We will identify the species, locate the nest, and recommend a treatment that fits the situation.

Not All Bees Are the Same Problem

Treating a bee problem correctly starts with knowing what you are actually dealing with. Lumping every stinging insect into one category is how homeowners end up with the wrong treatment, a nest that was never fully removed, or unnecessary harm to pollinators that were not actually a threat.

Honey Bees

Honey bees are protective of their hive and beneficial to the environment, so removal is handled differently than an extermination. When a colony has moved into a wall void, chimney, or hollow tree on your property, our technicians assess whether the hive can be safely relocated before considering other options, since honey bee populations play an important role in local ecosystems.

Carpenter Bees

Carpenter bees look similar to bumble bees but behave very differently. Instead of building a hive, females bore round, smooth entry holes into deck rails, fascia boards, eaves, and other exposed wood, then tunnel inward to lay eggs. Left alone for a few seasons, repeated tunneling can weaken structural wood and lead to costly repairs. We treat active galleries, apply protective measures to vulnerable wood, and advise on prevention so the same boards are not targeted again next spring.

Bumble Bees

Bumble bees typically nest in the ground, in old rodent burrows, under sheds, or inside compost piles. Colonies are usually small, but a nest near a doorway, patio, or play area still needs to be addressed carefully because bumble bees will defend it if disturbed.

Wasps, Hornets, and Yellowjackets

These are not bees at all, but they are commonly mistaken for them and are one of the more aggressive stinging insects we treat. Paper wasp nests under eaves, bald-faced hornet nests in trees, and yellowjacket nests hidden in the ground or inside wall voids all require different approaches, and our technicians are trained to identify and treat each one.

Our Bee Control Process

  1. Free Inspection. A licensed technician inspects the property, locates the nest or hive, and identifies the species involved.
  2. Species-Specific Plan. Because the right response depends on the type of bee and where it has nested, we build a treatment plan around what we actually find rather than a one-size-fits-all spray.
  3. Safe Removal or Treatment. Depending on the species and location of the nest, this may mean careful removal, targeted treatment of the nest itself, or treatment of an active gallery in wood.
  4. Prevention Guidance. We point out conditions that invite bees back, such as untreated exposed wood, gaps around siding, or old nesting sites, and recommend steps to keep the problem from returning.
  5. Follow-Up. If activity continues after treatment, we will come back and reassess at no extra charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are carpenter bees dangerous?

Male carpenter bees are territorial and may buzz close to people, but they cannot sting. Females can sting but rarely do unless handled directly. The bigger risk is the structural damage repeated tunneling can cause to untreated wood over time.

Should I try to remove a bee nest myself?

We do not recommend it. Disturbing a nest without the right equipment and knowledge of the species involved can provoke defensive stinging, and an incomplete removal often means the colony or a portion of it returns. A professional inspection is free and removes the guesswork.

Do you remove honey bees without killing them?

Whenever it is practical and safe, our technicians look at options that avoid unnecessary harm to honey bee colonies, given the role they play in pollination. The right approach depends on where the hive has settled and how accessible it is.
